CONROD and CARRSQ
The Commission has, since 1997 placed an emphasis on its partnership agreements with two research centres – CONROD (Centre of National Research on Disability and Rehabilitation Medicine) and CARRS-Q (Centre for National Research and Road Safety in Queensland).
CONROD is located at the University of Queensland (UQ) and is a partnership with UQ. As a nationally recognised research centre, it conducts research into the acute care and rehabilitation of people injured in motor vehicle accidents and analogous events and into the prevention and management of consequent disabilities.
CONROD operates five core motor vehicle injury research programs:
- Acute Trauma Care – focus on injury management;
- Rehabilitation (Medical and Allied Health) – improving injury assessment and rehabilitation strategies to facilitate recovery;
- Health Economics and Health Systems – prevention or mitigation of the economic consequences of injuries and disabilities;
- Social and Behavioural Science – improving psychological outcomes (in terms of adjustment and rehabilitation) for injured people; and
- Vocational and Community Rehabilitation – investigating opportunities to increase resources and the capacity to manage consequences of disability for injured people.
CARRS-Q is located at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) and is a partnership with QUT. It has a focus on research, teaching and community education with specific aims of improving accident prevention and road safety. It is via this research that CARRS-Q seeks to address the considerable human, economic and social costs created by motor vehicle accidents.
CARRS-Q undertakes world-class research in five main areas of road safety:
- Illegal and High Risk Behaviours;
- Human Behaviour and Technology Interface;
- Vulnerable Road Users;
- School and Community Based Road Safety Education; and
- Fleet and Work Related Road Safety.
